Automatic gaze stabilization corrector

The main purpose is development of a new scientific direction “Correction of the spatial personal orientation in extreme conditions”. An automatic gaze stabilization corrector can give an example. This device allows to improve the quality of the cosmonaut’s visual control of the moving objects  under the conditions of microgravity. This device must compensate the signal developed by the vestibular system of the cosmonaut. Microgyroscopes and microaccelerometers units or a set of them, jointed into an inertial measuring module, are proposed to be used as sensitive elements.

Why is it important?

Under the microgravity conditions which accompany the space flights the quality of the cosmonaut’s visual control of the moving objects decreases. This phenomena is commonly supposed to be caused by vestibular-sensor conflict of zero-gravity, in particular, adaptive changes in the system of vestibular-eyemotor and vestibular-visual interactions resulting from the afferent signals from gravity-inertial mechano-receptors. As a result information incoming from otolith organ of the cosmonaut’s vestibular apparatus can’t be interpreted by the brain’s integrative structures in a right way, in distinction from information coming from visual input. In this respect the time necessary for the viewing, target recognition and gaze stabilization increases essentially (three and more times). One of the methods for overcoming of vestibular-sensor conflict of zero-gravity is using by cosmonaut of a special device – an automatic gaze stabilization corrector.
